Up and coming nonprofit aims to rise above

We're now only five days away from the 24-hour, online giving blitz called Idaho Gives.

One participating nonprofit, Rise Above, is taking time out to spread awareness.

The new organization was founded by a former airman.

The goal is to provide at-risk youth with an outlet.

At an open house held Saturday in Nampa, Jason Hawkins said the freedom of flight can inspire in unique ways.

"Ever since then, it just broadened my perspective on life as far as opportunities and as well as just the feeling you get when you're flying," Hawkins said, "It's this great feeling of freedom, yet you're in control because you're flying the airplane. It's just a wonderful thing for people to experience."

Once the nonprofit takes flight, they plan on taking 12 teenagers under their wing.

The youth will learn how to build and fly airplanes.
