The Canyon County Sheriff's Office says they have averted a potential threat to the safety of students at Melba Elementary School.
At a press conference Monday, Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said his office received a tip Saturday that the school could be at risk. An investigative team worked over the weekend to assess the threat. The investigation revealed a potential act of violence could take place Monday.
One juvenile suspect was taken into custody following the investigation.
"A person came forward, the threat was real, we investigated and that person was taken into custody," Donahue said. "We averted what could be a very violent incident."
The sheriff says due to the nature of the case, few details are available.
