Volunteers prepare Thanksgiving meal for the homeless

On the eve of Thanksgiving day, soup kitchens around Boise are offering a helping hand to those in need. Families arrived at the Cathedral of the Rockies bright and early to start setting up the dining hall where folks will enjoy a special holiday meal.

To volunteer and kitchen manager at the River of Life, Robert Huey he doesn't mind spending the holidays "away from his immediate family" because folks who come through for a warm meal are his family. Robert found himself homeless on the streets of Boise for 3 years and turned his life around 13 years ago with the help of the River of Life men's shelter.

He believes feeding the homeless and spending the holiday with them helps them feel a sense of connection and purpose, something he felt he lacked decades ago.

The Cathedral of the Rockies will provide four one-hour meal services starting at 11 a.m. You can visit their website for more information regarding future meal services or volunteer opportunities.
