What could have been a scary situation was avoided by West Canyon Elementary students' quick thinking.
February 27 started out like any other day for school bus driver Larry Borchardt, working his route transporting kids from West Canyon Elementary. Borchardt began feeling a headache and started having vision problems, and knew he couldn't keep driving. He found a safe spot to pull the bus over to call for help.
Borchardt says he doesn't remember much, but he does remember telling the kids to stay seated.
That's when two courageous fourth and fifth grade boys, Jacob Farris and Tyler Thompson, jumped into action to save the day. With the boys' help, Borchardt was able to get the urgent medical care he needed.
The care team at West Valley Medical Center will recognize the two boys at a Great Save ceremony in partnership with the first responders that were on scene during the medical emergency: Canyon County Paramedics, Canyon County Sherriff, and Caldwell Fire.
That ceremony will be held March 4 at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of West Canyon Elementary.
