The closure is a result of three semi trucks crashing, with one catching on fire, 27 miles west of La Grande. The fire is now out and one truck has been removed from the Interstate. The other two trucks are still there, and other work has to be done before the freeway reopens. Drivers are urged to stay put, and crews will open the route as soon as it is safe. The time estimate is at least another couple hours.
OR245 between US26 and OR7 is also closed and not a safe alternate route for I-84. The closure may extend to Ontario for all vehicles. Click here more closure details in that area.
