BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise made two announcements this morning. The Zoo is welcoming a new member to the family and reopening the Small Animal Kingdom.

A new female Sand Cat, named Nala, is coming to Zoo Boise from the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City. The zoo expects to add a male sand cat, named Simba, soon. Simba will be coming from the Living Desert in Palm Springs.

Sand cats are found in the arid deserts of Africa's Sahara desert, the Arabian Peninsula and parts of Central Asia. The cats are the smallest wild cat on the planet and are opportunistic
hunters, known to attack and eat venomous snakes.

Nala is located in the recently reopened Small Animal Kingdom. Zoo Boise says the inside portion is still closed, but there is now a one-way path around the outside. Guests will now be able to see spider monkeys, lemurs, the Komodo dragon and other species.

Zoo Boise is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a limited number of tickets available to meet current group size requirements. Tickets have to be reserved in advance and a timed entry process is in place to reduce lines and allow for social distancing.
