Sophia Cruz joined Idaho News 6 in January of 2024, relocating from Austin, TX to the Treasure Valley!
After graduating from Sam Houston State University in December of 2023, with a Bachelor of Science in Geography she decided to pursue a career in broadcast meteorology. Her passion for atmospheric sciences sparked from taking courses such as Meteorology and Climatology. But she especially fell in love with the weather from her time working as a weather center intern in Houston, TX. There she was able to learn under Meteorologists Caroline Brown and Anthony Yanez. The continuous excitement of weather patterns and how they can change day to day is why Sophia loves meteorology. She was especially drawn to Treasure Valley for a chance to experience all four seasons and to see the gorgeous landscapes in the Gem State.
Some highlights of her time spent in Texas would be running the Austin Half Marathon with her mother and working as a weather intern at KPRC 2. In her downtime, she enjoys working out, going to music festivals, hiking, and spending time with her chihuahua named Chiquita.
