He’s the son of one of the legends of Indy Race Cars- Davey Hamilton Junior. Hamilton will begin the next chapter of his young racing career this weekend in Indy Car. Hamilton is a third generation driver from Boise and is looking to make his own splash when he races in the Laguna SECA in California.

Entering his first Indy light race, the 19-year-old Idahoan  has been racing with McCormack racing. Hamilton is eager to make his own splash and continue to make the Hamilton name known in the racing world.

"I’m not sure what to expect, it’s a new style and form of racing. It’s going to be fun. Hopefully, we finish strong and it puts me in a good spot to run the whole season in 2017," Said Davey Hamilton JR.

For most of his career, he has been racing on road courses. But with the help of his father, he’s ready for a new challenge this weekend. He says there would be no greater feeling that to pick up the checkered flag and share it with his dad.

"I’ve worked hard for this and they have worked hard for this and they know I've been wanting this opportunity for a long time," Said Hamilton Jr.

Hamilton’s dad has raced in the Indy 500 fourteen times. His best finish coming in 4th in 1998. Hamilton Understands that he still has a long way to go to get to that level of racing. But he hopes one day he’ll have the opportunity to race in the famous 500.

"It would be huge with my grandpa attempting to race it, my dad racing it, and for me to race it. You know there is only 33 drivers in the whole world that make that race so just to be a part of it would be great," Said Hamilton Junior.

Along with a busy weekend, Hamilton is still searching for funding for his 2017 season. If you would like to watch the race, it will air September 3rd on NBC Sports.
