Vandal's Defense Steps Up Their Game

Posted

Up north, it had been a long nine months for the Idaho Vandals after a 4-8 finish in 2015. But last night, football finally returned to the Palouse.

The credit to yesterday’s victory goes to the Vandal defense and the running game by Junior Aaron Duckworth who carried the ball 14 times for 108 yards and scored both of the Vandal’s touchdowns.

The focus was to stop the Bobcats’ run game, and that’s what Idaho did. Stopping Montana State to just 110 yards on the ground. It may not have been pretty, but Coach Petrino is pleased with his defense.

“That’s the best defense we’ve played since I’ve been here. I thought our defense really stepped up. Offensively, we were a little off. We just weren’t throwing and catching as well as we have in the past with a lot of the same guys, so that’s just a day where we were a little off.” says Head Coach, Paul Petrino.

"To see them pick us up when we were struggling is great. It’s a team effort. They came out, they were ready to play. It inspired us to at least go out there and compete. Whether things were going right or not.” says Quarterback Matt Linehan.

“You know, our defense. They played awesome today, and we needed them,” says Running Back Aaron Duckworth.
