Get ready for a rainy day! We're looking at a strong chance of precipitation in the Treasure Valley today with rain already falling in localized areas of the region early this morning.
The Pacific low-pressure system that's been sending us active weather all week has moved northward and is centralized in Washington today. In Idaho that cold front pushes against a smaller mass of high pressure...creating conditions for storms once again this afternoon and evening.
The storms that are on track to develop later this afternoon and evening will first pop up in eastern Oregon and the southern border of Idaho around 2PM. Due to instability in the central mountain region, we'll get some storm development around 3PM. This parade of storms will sit right in the middle of central Idaho.
After a few hours, some of these storms in Owyhee Co. will roll north through the Treasure Valley about 6PM. Get ready for potential for gusty winds and heavier downpours around this time in the valley.
Models are in agreement that today is set to be the wettest day of the week and a Flood Watch has been issued for areas of Eastern Oregon and SW Idaho through this evening. Excessive moisture from slow-moving showers and t-storms may drop 2"+ inches of rain. Creeks, streams and flood-prone locations may see quickly rising waters today. See below for Flood Watch counties.
Temperatures today are pretty mild, reaching the upper 70s in the TV. Higher elevations will track highs in the upper 60s.
Saturday we'll see some of this moisture stick around. We'll wake up to about a 50% chance of rain in the Treasure Valley. Sunday should be a nicer day with only a 20% chance of rain and partly sunny conditions.
